Zendo

Natasha Denona Zendo mini eyeshadow paletteNatasha Denona Zendo mini eyeshadow palette ($ 25.00 for 0.14 oz.) Is a new, permanent mini-palette with five pans that contains three shimmery eyeshadows and two mats. Four of the five colors were really beautiful; pigmented, mixable and long-lasting, but one shade – Dazz – was strangely solid / stiff in the pan, almost thin and compacted in the pan, but seemed to soften after using several layers (or in my case I removed a few too). That's definitely not the norm with the brand's eyeshadow formula! After that it's not "normal" anymore, but from then on it was decent.

Strong (335 M)

Strong (335 M) is a deep plum with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had a rich color payout in a single layer that was evenly applied to bare skin and faded out with ease. The texture was slightly creamy, dense but not thick or difficult to pick up with a dry brush. It took a good nine hours before it faded a bit.

Formula overview

$ 29.00 / 0.08 oz. – – $ 362.50 per ounce

Most of the brand's eyeshadows are very pigmented, mixable, and long-lasting. The eyeshadows have improved over time, especially in terms of longevity (without a primer). The original formula often wrinkled on me within seven to eight hours, while the more recent formula carries eight to nine hours of fading (instead of a full crease mark). Compared to previous iterations, the matte surfaces tend to be a bit more velvety, thicker and less dry / powdery.

The metallic finish is often the creamiest, feels a little denser, but has excellent pigmentation, adhesion, and mixability. The sparkling hues can have some dropouts depending on the application and shine, so they sometimes work better with your fingertips or a dampened brush. They can also run sharper compared to other surfaces.

Cream powders are the more unique formulation and tend to have a firmer, almost stiff consistency and a semi-opaque, watercolor-like coverage. They are more wearable for longer, but they have a few uses to help you learn how to use them. That formula has also improved compared to its first debut – it's a little more forgiving now.

Nude (336CM)

Nude (336CM) is a medium pink with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had mostly opaque pigmentation that could be completely covered with a second layer. The texture was velvety and bold but had a touch of powderiness in the pan so I would use a lighter hand to minimize the excess in the pan. It carried well for eight and a half hours before it visibly faded on me.

Most of the brand's eyeshadows are very pigmented, mixable, and long-lasting. The eyeshadows have improved over time, especially in terms of longevity (without a primer). The original formula often folded on me within seven to eight hours, while the more recent formula holds eight to nine hours (rather than completely wrinkling) as it fades. Compared to previous iterations, the matte surfaces tend to be a bit more velvety, thicker and less dry / powdery.

Stripped (337M)

Stripped (337M) is a darker pewter gold with moderate, warm undertones and a sparkling metallic finish. The eye shadow had a smooth, slightly creamy consistency that applied well to bare skin and had a smooth, even top layer in a single pass. The eyeshadow was an almost greenish hue in the pan at times, although there was no shift in practice – it was like a "dirty" taupe and when I pointed it out, the hue went best with tin (which makes sense). This shadow stayed well on for nine hours before fading a little.

Dazz (339DC)

Dazz (338DC) is a light to medium-sized coral with a strong, warm gold shimmer and a slightly pink base. It was lighter and warmer than many corals in that direction (those with a lot of gold shimmer). The texture was firmer and stiffer, however, and I felt like I had to work through the first few layers to get something softer and more pliable. It had an almost opaque paint cover that stuck pretty evenly after I removed part of the surface of the pan. It was nine hours before it faded noticeably.

Uncovered (338CM)

Uncovered (339CM) is a muted, medium-sized copper with subtle, warm, reddish undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow had rich color rendering in a single layer that applied well to bare skin over time and diffused well around the edges, but retained its color and coverage. The texture was soft, smooth, and velvety without being powdery. It wore beautifully for nine hours before it faded slightly.
