Skin care brands that follow a naturalistic approach fascinate me again and again. That's why I decided to take a closer look at Bellflower, a relatively new Korean skin care brand. Bellflower uses only safe and EEC certified ingredients and offers a minimalist yet innovative collection of serums and creams that are tailored to individual skin problems.

I am firmly convinced to mix serums. and I've learned over the past six months that adapting your own skin cocktail to your daily skin condition can significantly increase the effect and achieve faster results. I tested two of Bellflower's best-selling serums and four of his creams for a month to see how well they worked in my skin routine and whether they could take over some places on my shelf for the summer.

Hibiscus anti-aging serum

What is it? An anti-aging serum with hibiscus Sabdariffa flower extract (Roselle), adenosine, seven types of peptides and collagen to improve wrinkles and increase skin elasticity.

In detail:

The hibiscus serum is delivered in a simple milk glass bottle and has the light floral scent of hibiscus flowers with a musky undertone. Hibiscus extract contains natural AHA, mild peeling acids that contribute to smoother and younger looking skin. Peptides are another important anti-aging ingredient, and this serum contains exactly seven types of them to induce skin collagen synthesis.

After the advice on the packaging, I used this serum morning and evening for a two-week test. I usually squeeze the filled pipette tightly, releasing half of the contents. Then I mix it lightly with my fingers before massaging it on my face. It slides on the skin and is completely absorbed almost immediately.

Idebenon whitening serum

What is it? A nourishing and antioxidant-rich idebenone serum that contains niacinamide and extracts of flower complex, fungus and propolis to moisturize, improve elasticity and lighten the complexion.

In detail:

Idebenone was developed to fight signs of aging directly from the cell source. It is one of the strongest antioxidants on the market and offers strong protection against environmental stressors and free radicals. Although advertised as a whitening serum, it actually has pretty powerful anti-aging benefits.

Like the Hibiscus Anti-Aging Serum, this serum has a light floral fragrance, but also reminds me of the smell of Johnson's baby powder. The serum itself has a light yellow color, which seems to be a common natural shade for Idebenon and Propolis. I tried to use this serum for about two weeks, both morning and evening, according to the directions on the product label.

Daily coconut moisturizer

What is it? A daily moisturizer enriched with coconut oil and fruit extract that nourishes the skin by creating a moisture barrier.

In detail:

I rave about how much I love coconut all the time, especially since cold-pressed coconut oil is an essential part of my cleaning routine. Coconut oil is high in antioxidants and contains vitamins E and A. I was surprised to see aloe vera extract and apricot kernel oil in the list of ingredients, but I think they add to the antimicrobial quality of the product and help relieve irritation.

I expected this cream to smell like coconut. Instead, there is a slight hint of grapefruit, which is likely due to the grapefruit peel oil in its formulation. The cream-white moisturizer spreads like butter and is quickly absorbed into the skin, leaving a velvety finish. It feels really soothing and has not caused the slightest irritation so far. I mainly use it as a day moisturizer.

Tamanu Oil Barrier Relief Cream

What is it? A moisturizer with Tamanu oil to accelerate skin regeneration and improve wrinkles, and rosehip oil to care for dry and sensitive skin.

In detail:

Tamanu oil is another ingredient in skin care that I already raved about in my SIORIS report. Compared to the SIORIS You Look So Young night cream, Bellflower's Tamanu Oil Barrier Relief Cream offers a fresher citrus scent that reminds me of lime soda or lemon tea (which is probably due to the rose hip oil).

The cream has a light green color like the SIORIS night cream and leaves a velvety texture. Generally, my skin doesn't respond to it, but when some areas of my face are irritated, it tingles.

Glutathione Power Brightening Cream

What is it? A lightening moisturizer with glutathione to suppress overactive melanin production and improve hyperpigmentation, as well as extracts from pearls, rice bran and berries to restore radiance and smooth out uneven skin tone.

In detail:

Glutathione is a type of antioxidant found in human cells. This powerful ingredient not only offers detoxifying and immunity-promoting effects, but also helps the body to break down pigments. The cream has an opaque gel-like consistency and appears depending on the amount and lighting strong white or light pink. It also contains all the usual skin-lightening ingredients like niacinamide, pearl extract, berry extract and even rice bran extract for enhanced effects.

Azulene Calming Overnignt Cream

What is it? A nourishing and soothing night cream with guaiazulen and extracts from Centella asiatica and Houttuynia cordata to soothe sensitive skin, regulate sebum and promote cell renewal.

In detail:

The Azulene Calming Overnight Cream has an interesting evergreen color and exudes a subtle scent of chamomile and wax, which reminds me of the softening creams that were prescribed to me as a child to treat my eczema. The texture is slightly thicker than the creams above, but still relatively light for a night cream. I use it as a sleep mask, but if my skin feels extremely dry, I also apply it as a day cream.

The judgment

To be honest, I haven't seen any dramatic results from the serums. Maybe two weeks is not enough to test a serum. Still, I enjoyed both Hibiscus anti-aging serum and the Idebenon whitening serum for their textures, scents and processing. Both are great options for summer as they soak into the skin quickly and without stickiness, but I move slightly towards the Idebenon. Although dullness is not my biggest skin problem, it's great that it also has anti-aging benefits. Using the serum after a hot shower and washing my face is really nice and refreshing.

For the creams, my favorites from this selection are Daily coconut moisturizer and the Azulene Soothing night creamthat I can see working as a day moisturizer and sleep mask for me in the coming months. While Glutathione Power Brightening Cream feels good too, it doesn't arouse my interest as it is a little less moisturizing than the others. As much as I love Tamanu oil, that Tamanu Oil Barrier Relief Cream my skin tingled on more sensitive days.

Bellflower also offers serum or cream counterparts to many of the above products. I wish I could have gotten my hands on it earlier because I'm excited to see whether using a combination of products with similar effects can help improve results. After trying them all, I at least know which product works best on my skin!
